CELEBRATE LUNAR NEW YEAR AT EUGENE’S FIRST FRIDAY ARTWALK – February 6
Performances, Artists’ Marketplace, Youth Activities, and More
Eugene Downtown Farmers Market Pavilion & Plaza, 8th & Oak Sts.
5:30-8:30 pm Free Admission
Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Eugene First Friday ArtWalk on Friday, February 6, at the Eugene Downtown Farmers Market Pavilion. The Lane Arts Council and the Asian American Council of Oregon invite the public to this free, all-ages event celebrating the Year of the Horse.
The evening’s program opens with a traditional Chinese Lion Dance to welcome a year of prosperity, followed by Taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, and additional performances. Attendees can engage with local artists in the arts marketplace featuring printmaking, painting, textiles, pottery, and sculpture. Family-friendly, hands-on activities such as making paper lanterns, folding origami, and crafting Chinese dumplings. Food trucks offering Asian cuisine will be on site with food available for purchase. The celebration is part of the official Eugene First Friday ArtWalk tour.
Lunar New Year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse — specifically the Fire Horse — which begins on February 17, 2026, and continues through February 5, 2027. The Fire Horse symbolizes energy, freedom, bold action, and rapid change.
The event also features “Year of the Horse” artwork by local artists and high school students as part of an open Call for Art. Attendees are invited to vote for their favorite artwork in the People’s Choice Award exhibit, with cash prizes presented to the winners. Selected winning entries will be considered for the poster design for the 41st Annual Asian Celebration on July 18 at Alton Baker Park. A selection of artwork will also be exhibited at the Jordan Schnitzer Art Museum in late June for the annual Asian Celebration Art Exhibit and Showcase.
A brochure and map of the evening’s First Friday ArtWalk locations will be available for pickup at the Pavilion and at participating ArtWalk venues.
