YET ANOTHER ASIAN AMERICAN HOME IN EUGENE IS BURGLARIZED
EUGENE, OR — Tonight, the Asian American Council of Oregon learned of yet another burglary targeting an Asian American home in Eugene. That brings the total number of recent burglaries targeting Asian American homes to at least 22.
“We are deeply upset to learn of yet another home burglary targeting an Asian American family in Eugene. Each new incident compounds the trauma already endured by our community as homes are invaded, belongings are stolen, and yet suspects are released without any repercussions,” said Jensina Hawkins, Board member of the Asian American Council and forum organizer.
“This ongoing pattern makes it painfully clear: our community safety systems are not working for AAPI residents. We urgently need stronger prioritization of these crimes,” added forum organizer and Asian Council Board member Jenny Jonak. “All families deserve to feel safe in their homes. We call on our community and state leaders to acknowledge the harm that is happening to our community and demand the changes necessary for our safety, accountability, and justice.”
“We invite the public to our upcoming AAPI & Allies Public Safety Forum,” said Jensina Hawkins. “You can hear law enforcement officials address the status of the current investigations and efforts to stop these crimes targeting Asians.”
